Odisha Cabinet Approves Key Initiatives for Education and Rural Development

The Odisha state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved several major initiatives on Wednesday, including the upgradation of government-run primary schools and the launch of a rural development scheme.

Model Schools Under GMAPV Scheme

The cabinet approved the establishment of model schools in all 6,794 panchayats under the Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya (GMAPV) scheme. The initiative aims to upgrade and strengthen primary education across the state.

Smart High Schools Initiative

Under the Adarsha Vidyalaya Yojana, all high schools will be transformed into smart schools to enhance educational infrastructure.

Criticism of Previous Initiatives

Chief Minister Majhi criticized the previous government’s 5T high school transformation project, stating it lacked proper planning and DPRs, compromising the future of students.

Focus on Inclusive Education

The GMAPV scheme aligns with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, emphasizing inclusivity and quality education for marginalized communities. It also supports the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for holistic student development.

‘Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha’ Rural Development Scheme

The cabinet approved the ‘Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha’ scheme, designed to accelerate and ensure inclusive rural growth.

Criticism of Previous Rural Schemes

The chief minister also criticized the previous administration’s ‘Ama Odisha, Nabin Odisha’ scheme, stating it failed to deliver results and primarily benefitted contractors.

These initiatives aim to strengthen Odisha’s education system and rural infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable development across the state.
