Odisha Approves Incentive Package for India’s First SiC Semiconductor Facility

The Odisha state cabinet has approved a customized incentive package for RIR Power Electronics Limited to establish India’s first silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility in the state. With a total investment of ₹618.60 crore, the facility will be located at the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Park in Infovalley.

To enhance project viability, the cabinet increased the incentive package from the current 30% to 50%. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that RIR, India’s only manufacturer of silicon-based power devices catering to clients like BHEL, ABB, and Indian Railways, sought additional support to compete with offers from other states.

“The increased incentive package, estimated at ₹110 crore, will be disbursed in two phases. This decision ensures Odisha’s leadership in the semiconductor ecosystem, fostering industrial growth, local supply chain development, and skilling opportunities,” Majhi remarked.

The SiC semiconductor lab, a first in India, will enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities with advanced processes such as epitaxial layer deposition and packaging. The project, to be executed in two phases, is expected to create 750 jobs.

Cabinet Approves Revised Recruitment Rules for Medical Officers in Odisha

The Odisha state cabinet has approved the Odisha Medical and Health Services (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Amendment Rules, 2025, aimed at improving the recruitment and promotion process for medical officers in the state.

Under the new rules, the cadre structure has been revised, reducing the previous seven grades to six. Key changes include increasing the number of super time pay grade posts from 2 to 14 and senior administrative grade posts from 12 to 45. The selection grade-I posts have been abolished to provide better promotional opportunities.

Additionally, postgraduate medical officers will receive three advance annual increments, while those with super-specialization degrees will be granted five advance increments. These benefits will apply from the date of joining in the Group-A (junior branch) pay scale.
